Who should do this course

Learners who have had limited exposure to information technology, learners who had no opportunity to achieve this qualification during the final years of secondary school, migrants or refugees with limited or no exposure to information technology or people in the workplace who want to reinforce or formalise their on the job skills with a qualification or community education clients.


What is the purpose of the learning program

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to function at a basic level of Information Communication Technology (ICT) competency in the con- temporary information society. It will enable a person to undertake basic ICT functions using a personal computer and to engage in fundamental online activities. It could be described as 'the community standard in ICT literacy' and may be wholly or partially used as an access and equity program. Its objective is to enable people to acquire basic ICT knowledge and skills at a fundamental or foundation level or as a supplement to school curricula in middle to senior years or for adult and community education clients.


You will learn how to

  • Operate a personal computer 
  • Operate a word processing application 
  • Send and retrieve information using web browsers and email 
  • Operate a spreadsheet application 
  • Operate a database application 
  • Operate a presentation package

You will receive after successfully completion

Certificate I in Information Technology and you will be eligible to apply for higher level courses, such as the Certificate II in IT, and continue on up to an Advanced Diploma
